Cars and Coffee, March 2016

For the first time in nearly a year and a half, I finally made it to the Scottsdale Cars and Coffee. It’s an event I was at at the very beginning and never missed for over three years. But as life got busy and nights got late, it became increasingly difficult to force myself out of bed before sunrise and make the 30 minute drive to Scottsdale. But, I finally made that trip again and I’m very glad I did. Not only did I see a lot of familiar faces, but also a lot of wonderful cars. When I first started going almost nine years ago, it was a small group of about 20 cars and virtually no “spectators”. I was just a handful of people taking photos and back then it was difficult NOT to see...

More Lamborghinis at Cars and Coffee Oct05

More Lamborghinis at Cars and Coffee

While I didn’t set out with any sort of plan, I once again ended up focusing on the Lamborghinis at this month’s Cars and Coffee, just like last month. This time, instead of being the ultra rare and polarizing Lamborghini Gallardo 5-95 Zagato that drew my attention, it was four late model Lamborghinis, including a duo of rarities built to celebrate their 50th anniversary. Lamborghini Aventador LP 720-4 50° Anniversario Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-2 Lamborghini Huracán Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4 I was so focused on these Lamborghinis and shooting video (more to come on that later) that I only shot a handful of photos and ended up missing quite a lot, it seems. Things like a Jaguar D-Type...

Lamborghini Gallardo 5-95 Zagato at CnC

It’s a given that if you show up to the monthly Scottsdale Cars and Coffee, you’re going to see some good stuff and probably a lot of it. Even on the rare days when the event is greeted by a rainy morning, there are people out there. I also generally expect something unexpected. Might be a supercar, a wild custom, an ultra-rare vintage Italian or just something I’ve never even heard of. Still, when it came to seeing the 2014 Lamborghini Gallardo 5-95 Zagato, just one of two built so far, at this weekend’s gathering, I was surprised. I was running a little late and just managed to get some shots fired off before it scurried away, but it would be an understatement to say it caught my...

Cars and Coffee, October 2013

As the weather cools down and the sun comes up later, Cars and Coffee gets even better. I tend to skip most of the hottest months due to the heat, but when I finally returned this month (last time I was out there was June) it did not disappoint. Everything I saw from the months I skipped impressed me with the quantity and quality of cars despite the intense heat, but once we get to this time of year the event takes it to another level. I arrived very early at 6:30am (either 30 or 90 minutes before start time, depending on who you asked) and there were already a half dozen or so cars in the lot with new cars arriving constantly. I got there so early so that I could hop up on one of the ~16ft walls that run...

Cars and Coffee, Jun...

Despite the intense June heat (a high of about 110*f…) and early start time (mornings and I aren’t great friends), I managed to make it out to Cars and Coffee yet again. Despite those previous remarks, the turn out was still enormous, as usual. One of the highlights for me was...

Cars and Coffee, May 2013

This month’s Scuderia Southwest Cars and Coffee was not only one of the largest I’ve ever experienced in my six years of attending the event, but also one of the best when it came to modern exotics. Not only was there the always stunning Enzo and Carrera GT in attendance, but an astonishing purple Lexus LFA (my first time seeing one outside the walls of a dealership). Unfortunately I wasn’t able to stick around to hear it in action (its exhaust note is one of the car’s most appealing features to me), but seeing it in daylight side-by-side just made me like it even more. It may not be the most beautiful car in the world, but every single curve is so clearly function focused that I...

Cars & Coffee

Across the nation, there’s a shift happening in automotive events.  While there are still a large number of annual events that draw huge numbers, smaller, more casual events are increasing in popularity drastically.  And the appeal of such events is clear.  Most occur with much more...

Cars and Coffee, Apr...

It’s that time, once again, for Scuderia Southwest’s Cars and Coffee. I was able to attend this month (something that has been far too uncommon), however, I arrived very late. Fortunately, there were still a number of high-quality cars and motorcycles hanging around so there was...

Cars and Coffee, Sep...

Well, a little late to add these photos, but the September 2012 Scuderia Southwest Cars and Coffee had an amazing turnout, as usual. Far too nice of a turnout to not post more photos. While I love Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing in stripped down form and always enjoy seeing an Alfa Romeo...

Cars and Coffee, July 2012

After missing June’s monthly Cars and Coffee event in Scottsdale, Arizona, I knew I had to make it out to the July’s.  Like just about every month since its creation years ago, it didn’t disappoint. Click HERE to view the FULL GALLERY (22...

Inaugural Penske Cars and Coffee – Scottsdale Mar26

Inaugural Penske Cars and Coffee – Scottsdal...

When I heard that  Penske Automotive Group Phoenix was putting together their own monthly Cars and Coffee event at their Penske Auto Mall (along with a sister event in Chandler the same day), I knew I had to be there.  Not only because with backing like that, it’s bound to become a quality event, but also because it’s a great location for such an event.  Being just off the 101 and at a dealership lot (purpose built to display a large quantity of cars), it’s perfect for an event where there are a lot of cars and people coming and going and a lot to see.  Doesn’t hurt that those cars are displayed in front of a first rate racing museum that is sandwiched between luxury and exotic car...

Cars and Coffee, Feb...

For about the first three years of Cars and Coffee in Scottsdale, I didn’t miss a single event.  I was at the very first of both the now long gone event hosted by (the now long gone) Scottsdale Exotic Car Club and the still thriving event hosted Scuderia Southwest, back when it was just...

Cars and Coffee, November 2011

Of all the automotive events in the Phoenix valley, Scuderia Southwest’s Cars and Coffee event has long been one of my very favorites. I was there for the very first one and didn’t miss a month for years. However, that’s changed for me and it’s been increasingly difficult to make the drive down to Scottsdale for the Saturday morning gathering. So whenever I’m able to make it out, I’m excited. But, when the weather is prime for photography, I’m even more excited. The cars never fail to disappoint and you’ll always find plenty of passionate owners and enthusiasts more than happy to talk about all things automotive. Check out the links below to see my photos from...

1962 Ferrari 250 GTO at Cars and Coffee Oct04

1962 Ferrari 250 GTO at Cars and Coffee

While a large number of rare and beautiful cars made their way out to to the October’s Scuderia Southwest Cars and Coffee, a stunning blue ’62 Ferrari 250 GTO (serial number 3387) was without a doubt the star of the show. It’s the second GTO produced and was raced at Sebring in March of ’62 where it placed second over all and first in GT with Phil Hill and Oliver Gendebien behind the wheel. It later raced at Le Mans in June of ’62 and then went on to race in NART and by a privateer after that and is one of very few GTOs raced as a factory team car. It’s been repainted a number of times since it was built and received a number of minor cosmetic changes at those times, but...
