Supercar Run 5

It looked like a ridiculous house party. Ferraris, Lamborghinis, McLarens, Aston Martins and others overflowing into the streets and lined up bumper-to-bumper on both sides of the road. I wasn’t sure if I had the right address, as I’d just looked it up on Google and Facebook, but when I arrived at Supercars Specialists and Scottsdale, it was immediately clear I was in the right place.

Years and years ago, back when the Scottsdale Exotic Car Club was still a thing and the Scottsdale Cars and Coffee was just getting started, I used to go along on exotic car drives about once a month, always taking hundreds of photos along the way. But, as the SECC dissolved and the crowds increased, the number of drives seemed to decrease. So when I was finally able to make it out to the Supercar Specialists Supercar Run 5 (I’d missed the previous four), I was excited. Even better, a generous friend of mine had a seat for me in his Ferrari 360 Spider (with Tubi exhaust, which definitely made things a little more enjoyable) and nothing is better than a convertible when shooting a drive like this.

With 100+ cars in attendance, the group was not surprisingly a bit unwieldy. Early on there was a road-blocking supercar traffic jam, small groups of cars stopping at every gas station along the way, stop-and-go traffic amongst motorhomess in Wickenburg and cars slowly trickling into the parking lot for lunch up in Prescott. This wasn’t entirely a bad thing, though, as it cleared up a little room for the cars to stretch their legs and gave a our 360 Spider a spirited, clear shot through the twisty mountain road leading into Prescott.

Despite more than a few flaws and numerous cars ticketed, when Supercar Run 6 rolls around next year, I’ll be there.
