Ferrari F12 & 458 Challenge Tech Session
Every now and then the local Ferrari Club of America chapter (FCA – Desert Region) works with the local Ferrari dealership (Scottsdale Ferrari) to put together tech events where they run down the details of the latest and greatest Ferrari(s) to hit Arizona. And, every single time, I seem happen to have something else going on and I miss every single one, except this one. Sort of. I got there, but I got there late. I missed the unveiling and tech talk about the new Ferrari F12, which was very unfortunate, as from what I saw (and heard coming through its near perfect exhaust system later in the morning) it’s a hell of a car. It looked stunning in black and the interior on this particular car was one of the most impressive and just plain badass interiors I’ve seen on a new car in quite some time.
I did, however, manage to make it in time for most of the Ferrari 458 Challenge talk and when that uncorked V8 fired up and was revved a few times, I was very glad I did. All of the talk of the shift lights, engine management system, fire suppression and so on was all great information and nice to hear, but nothing compared to that 561hp barking and screaming, causing everyone around to jump and almost cower in fear. I managed to get a quick video of the event and wouldn’t even share it (didn’t plan on shooting any video, so I was a little unprepared… I apologize for the quality) if it weren’t for the wonderful reaction of the crowd in attendance.
In addition to the main event that was those two cars, there were a couple other very special cars posed in the room to provide little more eye candy. It’s always nice to see a Koenigsegg (this particular CCX was priced at a whopping $1,200,000), but there are very few cars I’m happier to see than an Enzo, especially a black on black Enzo. I don’t think there is any modern car I’d rather have. I only wish I could get that Enzo, CCX and F12 out of the service garage and into an Arizona sunset… Now THAT would make for a photo shoot.
