2014 Scottsdale Auction Wrap-Up
2014 proved to be a great year for the annual Arizona auto auctions. Not only did total sales increase by 11% from 2013 to a staggering $249M, but the stunning ’58 Ferrari California Spyder, sold by RM Auctions, set a new Arizona sales record at $8.8M after buyer’s premium. This is a fact I take a little pride in, considering I had the honor of shooting said car for RM (along with the 9th highest seller, the Porsche 718 RS 61 Spyder) on sunny afternoon in Fountain Hills, AZ. Below is a full list of the top ten sales from all auction houses, along with their sales prices after buyer’s premium.
That big jump in total sales didn’t just come from an increase in volume, either. While the total number of lots sold did increase (from 2,699 to 2,815, an increase of just 4.3%), the average price also increased (from $100,176 to $107,096, an increase of 6.9%).

10. 1966 Ferrari 275 GTB/6C Coupe – $2,640,000 (Bonhams)
While I attended both RM Auctions and Gooding this year, I wasn’t able to make it out to any of the others and, missing the first couple days, many of the cars I most looked forward to seeing at Gooding had already left the venue after being sold. Below are some shots of these top sellers and one of my favorite cars to cross the block at RM, the Toyota Celica IMSA GTO which surprised just about everyone by selling for $220,00 (well over the estimate).
Check out the full galleries from my time at the auctions and stay tuned to Desert-Motors.com for full photo shoots of some of these top-sellers (including that record-breaking California Spyder) later this year!
